What's Your Meditation?

we think meditation is kinda goofy. we picture someone sitting cross legged on the floor with thier fingers curled saying "ohm" over and over and over again. maybe that's not goofy to you, i don't know...

none the less, that's not what (christian) meditation is. that idea comes from eastern religions and the idea of meditation is to "empty" yourself--not so for us!

when the bible talks about meditaion it has the idea of "filling" yourself. contemplating...thinking over and over about:

God's Nature.
God's Person.
God's Promises.
God's Goodness.
God's Grace.
God's Plan.
God's...well, meditating on God.

God's Nature...He's Holy and worthy of worship--and i think of Psalms.
God's Person...is revealed in Christ--so i read the Gospels.
God's Promises...are real and true and i know God can't lie.
God's Goodness...is told about in the historical books of the Bible.
God's Grace...is expounded upon in the book of Romans.
God's Plan...i read the book of Acts to remind Me He is still at work.

the thing is we all meditate...but the question is, what do we think about over and over?

are we trapped in the trouble that has befallen us?
do we stay mired in the mud of our woes?
are we weighed down with our worry?
do we dwell on the dour?

then, that's your meditaion.

child of God, lift up your eyes to the hills! He is your Salvation!

and may the words of my mouth, and the MEDITATION OF MY HEART be pleasing to You, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.

I can't find the song you mention but have come across two versions of a song called the Mercy Seat. Are either of these the song you are looking for?

Vickie Yohe
Mercy Seat

In the darkness
Where everything is unknown
I face the power of sin on my own
I did not know of a place I could go
Where I could find a way to
Heal my wounded soul.

He said that I could come into
His presence without fear
Into the holy place where
His mercy hovers near

I'm runnin' I'm runnin'
I'm runnin' to the mercy seat
Where Jesus is callin' he said
His grace would cover me
His blood will flow freely
It will provide the healin'
Come runnin' to the mercy seat
I'm runnin; to the mercy seat.

Are you livin' where hope has not been?
You're lost in the curse of a
Lifetime of sin
Lovely illusions they never
Come true I know where there's a place
Of mercy for you
He said that you could come into his
Presence without fear
Into this holy place
Where his presence hovers near.

Come runnin' come runnin'
Come runnin' to the mercy seat
Where Jesus is callin' he said his
Grace would cover you. His blood
Will flow freely it will provide the healin'
Come runnin' to the mercy seat
I'm runnin' to the mercy seat
He said that you could come into his presence
Without fear into the holy place
Where his mercy hovers near

Mercy Seat
Johnny Cash

It all began when they took me from my home
And put me on Death Row,
A crime for which I am totally innocent, you know.

I began to warm and chill
To objects and their fields,
A ragged cup, a twisted mop
The face of Jesus in my soup
Those sinister dinner deals
The meal trolley's wicked wheels
A hooked bone rising from my food
And all things either good or ungood.

And the mercy seat is waiting
And I think my head is burning
And in a way I'm yearning
To be done with all this weighing of the truth.
An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth
And anyway I told the truth
And I'm not afraid to die.

I hear stories from the chamber
Christ was born into a manger
And like some ragged stranger
He died upon the cross
Might I say it seems so fitting in its way
He was a carpenter by trade
Or at least that's what I'm told

My kill hand's tatooed E.V.I.L.
Across it's brother's fist
That filthy five!
They did nothing to challenge or resist.

In Heaven His throne is made of gold
The ark of his Testament is stowed
A throne from which I'm told
All history does unfold.
It's made of wood and wire
And my body is on fire
And God is never far away.

Into the mercy seat I climb
My head is shaved, my head is wired
And like a moth that tries
To enter the bright eye
I go shuffling out of life
Just to hide in death awhile
And anyway I never lied.

And the mercy seat is waiting
And I think my head is burning
And in a way I'm yearning
To be done with all this weighing of the truth.
An eye for an eye
And a tooth for a tooth
And anyway I told the truth
And I'm not afraid to die.

And the mercy seat is burning
And I think my head is glowing
And in a way I'm hoping
To be done with all this twisting of the truth.
An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth
And anyway there was no proof
And I'm not afraid to die.

And the mercy seat is glowing
And I think my head is smoking
And in a way I'm hoping
To be done with all these looks of disbelief.
A life for a life and a truth for a truth
And I've got nothing left to lose
And I'm not afraid to die.

And the mercy seat is smoking
And I think my head is melting
And in a way that's helping
To be done with all this twisting of the truth.
An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth
And anyway I told the truth
But I'm afraid I told a lie.
