The Mercy Seat

this is a unique word in Scripture...only used of the covering of the ark of the covenant. it was to be made out of pure gold (while the rest of the ark was gold plated) and have large cherubim fashioned above it. These angels were to be facing one another (that is, facing the center) and bowing.

i wonder what it looked like.

the important thing about the mercy seat was who "sat" on it. the VERY PRESENCE OF GOD dwelt on the mercy seat!

i think it's a beautiful picture of God's character--He sits in the place of mercy...remember that next time you are feeling condemnation.
